FAQ

How can I get to the lodge?

Ave Sol River Sanctuary is located on the banks of the Pacuare River. By far the most scenic and enjoyable access is via river raft – (see Packages, includes all guiding, transportation, food and equipment). For access via road (involving cable-crossing and hike) you will need to make specific arrangements directly with us (see Contact Us).

Where does the tour begin and end?

Our trip begins at a “Put in” point (a safe access point in the upper part of the river), you will enjoy Class 3 sections through to Ave Sol lodge, and the enxt day experience the thrills of Class 4 following the river down to the “Take out” point at Siquirres. Dry bags are used in the rafts to transport gear down the river. A shuttle bus will transport you to the “Put in” and from the “Take out” points.

What are the different classes for the rapids?

Class I = EASY
Class II = NOVICE
Class III = INTERMEDIATE
Class IV = EXPERT
Class IV+ = ADVANCED

Do I need to have had any experience with paddling?

You don’t need any experience as your guide will support you with instruction before and throughout your trip, you just need to paddle to the best of your ability and work as a team with those sharing your raft.

What are the weather and river conditions like?

The weather is generally warm and humid, and the water is refreshing without being cold. The dry Summer season in which there is less rain, and the river is generally more clear is from mid-November to April. It is recommended to wear comfortable quick-dry clothing and strap on sandals as you will get wet!

How safe is the rafting?

Your qualified and experienced guide will give clear and thorough safety briefing before and throughout your trip. Everyone will wear a PFD throughout the duration of the time on the water.

What do I bring?

Please refer to detailed preparations list – however a quick summary of key items includes: quick dry clothing, shoes that can get wet such as strap on sandals, tennis shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, water bottle, headlamp/flashlight, waterproof camera, change of clothing, towel, light jacket/windbreaker, cash for drinks/snacks/souvenirs/tips, small binoculars if you have them. If you are wearing sunglasses or prescription glasses make sure you wear them with a strap.

Provided: bed sheets, bath towel, all food (including breakfast on the first morning), while on the river your meals are prepared by your talented rafting guides. Please let us know any allergies or special requirements. You may bring your own snacks if you would like some specific extra items during your trip.

What do we do with our luggage?

Your large luggage items will be securely stored and ready for you at the take out point at the end of your trip. We recommend that you also use a personal lock as an extra safety measure.

What is the minimum age to run the trip?

You must be at least 14 years of age to participate in our multi-day rafting trips.
